Chris recently left the New Jersey Department of Agriculture’s Food & Nutrition Division as Farm to School Assistant Coordinator to take on this new role as manager of the Trenton Farmers Market.  Chris has managed the West Windsor Community Farmers Market since 2011 and continues to be an advisor and volunteer with the Greenwood Ave. Farmers Market in Trenton, founded in 2015. Chris’s love of food, cooking, organization and community have come together to revitalize the Trenton Farmers Market, now in its 71st year.

Something unique about the market:

The Trenton Farmers Market has an amazing history – generations of farming families all gathering to sell their produce and generations of customers who have been coming here their whole lives, with their parents and grandparents!  We’re unique because we’re indoors, four days a week, all year-round.  It’s a really nice alternative to a grocery store – with a wide variety and lots of personalities!

Favorite thing you sell:

I can’t play favorites – but I’ll always opt for fruits and vegetables!

Favorite recipe / cooking technique using Jersey Fresh:

Roasting – Heat does wonders to caramelize most vegetables.  Toss cut up veggies with oil, salt and pepper and roast.  If possible, roast like vegetables together so as to not over/under cook them.  Broccoli, cauliflower, romanesco all roast beautifully together, as do root vegetables – sweet potatoes, beets, carrots. etc.
